This poster is a printed publication consisting of reading lists submitted by my fellow students and designers. These lists consist of our favorite books and publications, which inspire us as designers.
There was a similar publication created and designed by the talented UK design studio Spin. It is printed on salmon newspaper and consists of reading lists by 50 designers.
Upon beginning this project, our class read an excerpt from the book "The Man Without Qualities" by Robert Musil, which was featured in Dot Dot Dot #16. In this excerpt, General Stumm searches the state library, and tests the smarts of the librarian inhabiting the shelves. Through the General's slyly composed and politically motivated questions, the librarian realizes just what Stumm is looking for - a bibliography of bibliographies, a book with a list of books dealing specifically with the ethical problems the General is interested in.
In the poster I deal with this using a small amount of dry wit. The teacher is my General, and I present him with my bibliography of bibliographies, my list of lists.
